Tottenham Hotspur are set to trigger an option to extend a senior player’s contract by one year if they cannot find a buyer for him in January.
The January window is nearly a month and a half away, but speculation is already intensifying about the potential business the Lilywhites could do.
While most reports have talked about the priority positions Tottenham want to strengthen in January, there is also one player the North London club would be looking to offload.
Yves Bissouma’s proposed move to Galatasaray and Fenerbahce fell through due to his fitness issues in the summer, and Tottenham may face a similar complication in selling the player in January.

Tottenham could extend Yves Bissouma’s contract by one year
The Mali international’s current deal runs out next summer, but selling him in January may be difficult as Bissouma suffered a serious injury last month and has undergone surgery.
Interestingly, The Daily Mail have now revealed that the midfielder’s contract contains a one-year extension option. The option can be triggered by Tottenham Hotspur without the permission of the former Brighton man.
It is revealed that Thomas Frank’s men will try to find a buyer for Bissouma in January, but if they fail to do so, they are expected to trigger the option, which will extend his deal until 2027.
Bissouma is of interest to two European clubs
It was reported last week that Galatasaray are set to reignite their interest in Bissouma in January after deciding against signing him in the summer.
According to some sources, the Tottenham midfielder is also one of the names on Juventus’ wishlist as the Bianconeri look to strengthen their midfield.
However, the big question is regarding Bissouma’s fitness, and it remains to be seen if those clubs will take a punt on the midfielder does not recover from his injury by January.
