Tottenham sign off in style against AC Milan

Nacer Chadli and Tom Carroll were on target as Tottenham claimed a 2-0 win over AC Milan in their last pre-season match in the Audi Cup on Wednesday.

Chadli fired the opener from the edge of the area in the eighth minute before Carroll added the second with a deft finish to find the bottom left corner midway through the second half.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has been out injured with a wrist problem, came off the bench to play half an hour in a boost for Spurs ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League season, while midfielder Ryan Mason was also given some game time following an injury.

Tottenham’s opening game of the new campaign is away at Manchester United on Saturday.

After the match, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said on the club’s official Twitter account: “We are very happy and very pleased. We are a very young team and this will give us confidence for Saturday.

“We scored a couple of fantastic goals. We kept the ball well. The way we have worked in pre-season has been very pleasing.”

Defender Kieran Trippier, who signed for Tottenham from relegated Burnley in June, felt sharp against the Serie A side.

He said: “It was good to get the first full 90 mins under my belt. I feel fit and sharp and it was good to get a win and clean sheet.”
