Tim Sherwood has taken aim at Tottenham Hotspur for wasting money on new signings instead of providing one of their former players with a fair opportunity.
There have not been too many success stories in recent years which involve the Tottenham Hotspur academy.
However, there have been times when Spurs have been rewarded for showing a little player patience. The finest example is Harry Kane, who went from being loaned out on multiple occasions to becoming the club’s record goalscorer.
Of course, success stories such as these are not always the case, as seen with Troy Parrott, who was sold by Tottenham after making just four senior appearances.

Tim Sherwood blasts Tottenham for selling Troy Parrott
Troy Parrott’s recent displays for the Republic of Ireland have left Spurs fans imagining what could have been if the striker had been given more opportunities in North London.
Among these is the club’s former manager, Tim Sherwood, who has blasted Tottenham for choosing to make big-money signings instead of ever giving Parrott a chance.
He told Sky Sports News: “Unfortunately for Troy, he’s had to leave Tottenham to do that. I’ve got a big question for anyone who decided to let Troy Parrott go…
“I’m not sure he had a fair opportunity to prove himself; he’s had to go to AZ to do that. He’s not just all of a sudden appeared in these last two games for the Republic of Ireland; he’s been banging in goals like you wouldn’t believe in Holland.
“We know it’s an easier platform over there, but he never got the opportunity to show his quality for Tottenham. He never got a fair crack at the whip…
“Tottenham have signed players for 60, 50, 40 million playing in Troy’s position. I can tell you now, they’re not as good as Troy Parrott.
“Tottenham should have saved their money, given this kid an opportunity, and spent it elsewhere…
“That boy, hopefully for his sake, will come back and haunt them. At the moment, he is going the right way about it.”
Spurs offloaded Parrott after a strong goalscoring season
Some might sympathise with Tottenham for letting Parrott leave the club. After all, he failed to impress when he was loaned out to other teams in England, so why should he then be given a chance in the Spurs first team?
However, Parrott bagged 17 goals and five assists during a loan move in the Netherlands, and he could have been offered game time under Ange Postecoglou.
In the end, Spurs decided to collect a small transfer fee instead, a decision which they have likely lived to regret.
