Tottenham snap to attention as £30m striker is highly likely to seal January transfer

Tottenham may have the chance to strengthen their forward line in January, as a Premier League striker with 11 goals might be on the move.

The Premier League’s leading marksman is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who is five goals away from reaching 20 for the campaign after 14 matches.

Right behind him is Brentford forward Igor Thiago, who has been in superb form for the Bees, scoring 11 league goals so far.

Tottenham could do with a forward as potent as either one, but at present, they do not have that type of finisher, with their current top scorer Richarlison on five this season.

Tottenham push for Igor Thiago transfer move

Tottenham are said to be looking to strengthen the forward area of their team, and reports have already linked Spurs with Igor Thiago heading into the winter window, as it is claimed that they are eyeing a £30m move for the forward in January.

Following those links, Brentford manager Keith Andrews issued a hands-off message to Tottenham and other interested clubs, making it clear that they do not plan on selling their striker.

A fresh report from CaughtOffside now claims that Thiago is highly likely to leave Brentford this January.

Spurs, alongside Aston Villa and Newcastle, are believed to be strongly interested after closely scouting Thiago. It is understood that Brentford are now aware that they are likely to receive tempting offers when the window reopens.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that Tottenham will try an initial loan move for Thiago, with the deal then set to become permanent in the summer.

Spurs interest weighed against Thiago’s goal return

Thiago has scored 11 Premier League goals this season, but it is important to note that five of those have come from the spot.

If you remove the penalties, then the Brazilian has only one more non-penalty goal than Richarlison, who sits on five in the league.

That does raise a fair question about whether Thiago is the level needed to truly elevate Tottenham’s front line, given how much of his return has relied on penalties.
