Tottenham star admits there is one ‘annoying’ thing about Harry Kane

Matt Doherty has labelled Harry Kane the best player in the Premier League but the Tottenham right-back admitted it’s annoying how good the striker is in golf.

A year and a half after his move from Wolves, Doherty is finally showing the attacking attributes that made him such a potent threat going forward during his time at Molineux.

The 30-year-old is thriving as a wing-back in Antonio Conte’s system and the Spurs boss has had some major words of praise for the Republic of Ireland international over recent weeks (Football.London).

Doherty played as a left wing-back against Newcastle on Sunday as Sergio Reguilon missed the game through injury but the former Wolves man did not look out of place, scoring a goal and bagging an assist in the 5-1 win.

Doherty admitted he made up his mind to run to the far post for his goal as soon as he saw that Kane had time and space on the ball.

He told Tottenham’s official website: “I knew once ‘H’ had the ball, if I made a run… I’ll give H credit because it looked like it was just a cross for Sonny, but I knew at the time he was trying to pick me out at the far post, and I just felt like it was going to come through, so I kept making the run!

“I didn’t see it go in! I headed it down and you just hear everybody celebrating, but, yes, when H is on the ball like that, you keep making runs because he’ll pick you out, most times.

“He’s the best player in the Premier League, for me. He’s got the best passing, the best finishing, just the best everything.”

When asked about playing gold together with Harry, Doherty responded: “And in golf, he’s the best player as well! Do you know how annoying that is? And the fact that I’ve just said that on camera as well… he hits the ball miles!”

Spurs Web Opinion

Doherty is evidently one of the most popular figures in the dressing room and so it is great for the squad’s morale for him to be involved and playing so well. If he maintains his current form until the end of the season, I do not see Spurs cashing in on him this summer.
