Ben Davies has stated that he has never doubted Gareth Bale’s talent or desire and criticised the extreme narratives surrounding the Welshman this season.
Bale did not have the kind of impact he would have hoped for in the first half of the season after completing his fairytale return to Tottenham in the summer.
On the back of some of his disappointing displays, some pundits questioned the Welshman’s desire to prove himself at the top level.
However, the 31-year-old has looked much more like his old self in his last couple of outings and was arguably Tottenham’s best player in the 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday despite being on the pitch for just 45 minutes.
Mourinho admitted in yesterday’s press conference that he has never doubted on-loan Real Madrid star’s qualities and it was more a case of managing his minutes carefully so that his body can handle the load.
Davies has now echoed the Spurs boss’ sentiments, insisting that it was always going to take Bale time to get his sharpness back.
When asked about his international teammate, the left-back told Football.London: “I think for me I’ll never have any doubts about Gareth Bale.
“There’s a narrative around him that he’s either brilliant one week or he’s not.
“He hasn’t played a lot of football in the past two years. He was probably our best player against West Ham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Football fans and the footballing media is extremely reactionary and many were quick to write off Bale and suggest that he is done at the top level. Going by his recent displays, the Welshman is showing every sign that he is going to make his critics eat their words.
