Tottenham star claims Virgil Van Dijk’s impressive stat may be false

Tottenham Hotspur had a number of standout figures last season, but one man was able to write himself into the club’s history books with just 45 minutes of play.

Lucas Moura enjoyed a bit-part role for Spurs until injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli at the turn of the year, at which point he seized his chance for more regular first-team football.

The Brazilian winger even scored the first ever hat-trick at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when taking on Huddersfield towards the tail end of the season.

However, it was his Champions League semi-final hat-trick that will live long in the memory, as Moura managed to score three in the second half alone against Ajax.

This brought Spurs back from a 3-0 aggregate deficit in order to qualify for the final itself, where he would meet Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk boasted the incredible stat last season that he was never dribbled past (GiveMeSport), but Lucas Moura believes he may have done it when he faced him in the Premier League at Anfield.

Moura said (Desimpedidos – via Sport Witness) “Dude, now this question there I don’t know if it’s true. They say he hasn’t been dribbled past since… whatever. If the guy is past him, it’s already a dribble.

“Have I already gone past him? I don’t know, but the guys must have gone past him now.

“I know I scored a goal against Liverpool, we lost, but I scored against Liverpool and he was left behind. But he’s great. He is.

“In the world? There are a lot of people there. But for the season, I think he’s among the three. Among the three!

“Hey, the guy’s good. He’s two metres tall, strong, and the Liverpool team is a very good fit, with a lot of chemistry. So he had an excellent season.”
