Tottenham star could get an England call-up, Gary Lineker predicts

Gary Lineker has been impressed with the way Djed Spence has come on at Tottenham over recent months and has claimed that the defender can achieve a significant career milestone over the coming weeks if he keeps playing as well as he is at the moment.

Djed Spence continues to go from strength to strength

While a lot of Spurs supporters would have felt that Spence was unfortunate not to get more opportunities at the start of this season, even the full-back’s biggest fans would have not expected him to do as well as he is right now.

Despite being mostly played out of a position at left-back by Ange Postecoglou, the 24-year-old has stepped up in a massive way and is delivering dominant performances that have caused many people to stand up and take notice.

So much so that it is now clear that Destiny Udogie does not walk straight back into the side, with Spence making himself nearly undroppable.

Gary Lineker makes an exciting Djed Spence prediction

The Tottenham full-back picked up yet another Man of the Match award for his energetic and solid display in the 1-0 win over Man Utd on Sunday, with Gary Lineker loving what he saw from the former Middlesbrough man.

The pundit suggested that Spence could be in contention to start at left-back in Thomas Tuchel’s first game as England‘s head coach next month.

When asked if he was impressed by the Spurs defender, Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast: “Absolutely. I was really impressed with Djed Spence again. I think he was, I’m quite rightly, given man of the match by Gary Neville. He was up and down. He was good defensively. He was good on the ball.

“It’s funny, isn’t it, that about a year ago, well, not even that really, actually during the Euros itself, we were going, you know, the left-back problem for England.

“And then suddenly you get three emerge at once, you know, with [Myles] Lewis-Skelly, obviously Lewis Hall and Djed Spence, you know, three young players that suddenly look really strong in that position.

“And I would think one of them will be playing in Thomas Tuchel’s first game, which is only just, what, a month away now. So they’ll be fighting for that position.”

Djed Spence is not resting on his laurels

Spence has certainly had to bide his time since arriving at Tottenham, being overlooked by Antonio Conte, and initially by Postecoglou as well.

The 24-year-old is seemingly desperate to make up for lost time now that he has forced himself into the side and is showing what he can do.

Following his Man of the Match performance on Sunday, Spence took to social media to state that he is ‘still hungry’, which suggests that he feels there is a lot more left to come from him.
