Tottenham star forced to withdraw from international squad due to ‘fitness issues’

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the final international break of the year hoping for a clean bill of health, but one star has been sent home early.

Club football has been put on a pause with the final international break of the year in full swing, with several players vying for a spot in the 2026 World Cup finals.

Tottenham Hotspur players have not been exempt from these rounds of international football, with a number of the Lilywhites involved in 45 fixtures across the break.

Thomas Frank would be hoping his players return unscathed from the pause, as the season is expected to enter one of the busiest and most unforgiving stretches during the festive period.

Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall withdraws from Sweden squad

Amongst the different players to have jetted off to represent their countries this break is Lucas Bergvall, who has missed the last two games for Tottenham because of a concussion injury.

According to reports from Aftonbladet, it has now been confirmed that Lucas Bergvall has withdrawn from the Swedish squad entirely, with reports stating that he was forced to leave the national team due to fitness issues.

Sweden are fighting for their place in the World Cup after some wretched form of late, and they face Switzerland on Saturday.

Bergvall was called up by his national team, with new manager Graham Potter sounding confident about him featuring for his side despite the midfielder not taking part in full training.

It is believed that the 19-year-old’s withdrawal is due to the concussion issue that saw him come off early against Chelsea.

Spurs concerned as Bergvall setback raises fresh questions

Following concussion protocols, Bergvall was expected to miss just two games for Tottenham since picking up the knock.

He has done that, not featuring against Copenhagen in the Champions League and missing out against Manchester United in the last league game.

It is rather strange that the teenager would withdraw entirely from the national team for the same reason, and it would be a cause for worry for Frank and his medical team, who still have several sidelined players.
