Tottenham star is officially the fastest player in the Premier League this season

According to Squawka, Micky van de Ven has now recorded the highest top speed in a Premier League game so far this season.

It is fair to say that not all Spurs fans were completely over the moon when Van de Ven arrived through the door last summer, with a few perhaps believing that the club took the cheaper option rather than signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

However, the Dutchman has hardly put a foot wrong since signing for the club and has had an outstanding start to his Premier League career.

The 22-year-old’s technical quality and his composure have seen some liken him to Tottenham legend Jan Vertonghen but the one quality that sets him apart from other centre-backs is his frightening turn of pace.

Time and again, Van de Ven has shown an ability to turn on the after-burners and make crucial recovery runs, thus enabling Ange Postecoglou’s men to play a very high defensive line.

Squawka have now stated that the centre-back has been clocked in at 37.3 km/hour, which is the highest of any player across the Premier League.

In fact, it is revealed that Van de Ven has even surpassed the top speed that was set by Manchester City star Kyle Walker last season.

Spurs Web Opinion

You rarely see someone who is as physically tall and imposing as Van de Ven being able to accelerate so quickly, which is what makes him such a freak. However, I do worry that it puts a lot of strain on his hamstring, with the centre-back having picked up a couple of hamstring injuries in his career already.
