Overcoming adversity

Spurs fans would have expected a fairly straightforward game against Qarabag but their task got a lot more complicated when Radu Drgusin was sent off in the seventh minute of the game.

The home side had to play with ten men for almost the whole game, which is why Ange Postecoglou would have been extremely pleased to see his team come away with a 3-0 win.

Dominic Solanke got his second goal in two games while Brennan Johnson scored for his third consecutive outing, with Pape Sarr getting the other goal for Tottenham.

One man to thank

What was particularly impressive was the fact that Spurs managed to come away with a clean sheet despite playing with a numerical advantage.

They have one man to thank for that as Guglielmo Vicario made a couple of outstanding stops to keep Qarabag out.

The goalkeeper was handed a match rating of 8.52 by Whoscored, which was enough for him to make their Team of the Week.

Vicario silences critics

The Italian has come under quite a bit of criticism for his handling of crosses and set-pieces recently but he showed his class on Thursday.

There has never been any doubt over the 27-year-old’s shot stopping, with the former Empoli man continuing to make some crucial interventions for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

On balance, some will feel that his shortcomings in handling corners are more than made up by his shot-stopping and his ability to remain calm in possession, which is important for the way Spurs want to play.
