Tottenham star nominated for Premier League Young Player of the Season award

Destiny Udogie has been nominated in the six-player shortlist for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

Udogie has had an outstanding debut season in the Premier League, having established himself as one of the important cogs in this Tottenham side.

The Italian has thrived in the inverted full-back role, providing plenty of attacking thrust going forward while also turning in solid displays defensively.

It thus came as a major blow when the 21-year-old suffered a quadriceps injury a few weeks ago, which brought an early end to his season.

The youngster would have been hoping to carry on his impressive form into the Euros this summer and play a key role for Italy in the tournament but the injury has dashed his hopes of doing so.

Destiny Udogie nominated for Young Player of the Season

However, Udogie might still have something to smile about as it has emerged that the Spurs man could potentially walk away with the Young Player of the Season award in his debut campaign in England.

The left-back has been nominated for the prize alongside Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, and Arsenal pair William Saliba and Bukayo Saka.

This kind of award is rarely ever won by defenders and one would expect one of Palmer or Foden to get their hands on the prize. Micky Van de Ven and Pape Sarr would consider themselves unlucky not to make the list of nominees alongside Udogie.
