Tottenham star pulls out of international duty with hamstring injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive options have taken a hit, with latest reports confirming Kevin Danso’s injury. The centre-back, who was already a major doubt for Thursday, has now pulled out of the Austria squad for the international break.

Earlier today, we reported that Danso’s availability was in serious question after he picked up a suspected hamstring issue in Spurs’ recent league fixture against Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old was seen heading straight down the tunnel at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, accompanied by medical staff, clutching his right hamstring while pulling up his shorts on that side—never a good sign for any player.

Muscular injuries can be unpredictable, and given Tottenham’s fitness struggles this season, the worry was always that the Austrian defender could be sidelined for more than just one game.

The club had yet to release an official statement, but now, confirmation has arrived from another source.

Austria national team confirms Kevin Danso injury

Austria’s national team have now broken the news. Their official X account confirmed that Danso has pulled out of the upcoming international break due to injury.

The statement read: “Kevin Danso will miss the Nations League playoff against Serbia due to injury. Samson Baidoo will replace him in the squad.”

With this, it is now certain that Tottenham will be one defender short when they welcome AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night.

However, Ange Postecoglou still has options in Cristian Romero, Archie Gray, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies, but losing Danso at this stage of the season is hardly ideal.

Tottenham’s ongoing fitness concerns

While Tottenham still have enough cover at the back, it is concerning that Danso has picked up a muscular issue just a handful of games into his Spurs career.

It raises further questions about the fitness situation at the club, with multiple players struggling with similar problems this season.

A look at Danso’s injury record shows that his last muscular issue dates back to the 2022/23 season when he was out for 17 days. This latest setback now adds to Spurs’ growing list of fitness concerns.
