Tottenham star says ‘yes’ to Roma after failing to play a single minute in pre-season

A third Tottenham Hotspur defender could exit the club in a matter of days, even though the Lilywhites are not stacked with a lot of options in his position.

Spurs have offloaded both Cristian Romero and Djed Spence over the last few days, with the pair joining Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan respectively.

Those deals did not come as a surprise, given that De Zerbi had made it clear he will not convince the Tottenham defensive pair to stay.

However, there have now been suggestions that another Spurs defender could be on his way to Serie A after not featuring at all in any of the club’s pre-season friendlies.

Tottenham star Destiny Udogie has said ‘yes’ to joining Roma

Over the past few days, several Italian outlets have been reporting that Roma are eyeing a late deal to sign Destiny Udogie, and a new update suggests the Serie A club are making progress in their quest.

According to Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), the Tottenham left-back has already said ‘yes’ to a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The 23-year-old has made it clear to Spurs that he would only consider leaving for a club that feels ‘perfect’, and he feels a move to Roma is one such opportunity.

The report claims that Tottenham have rejected the idea of a straight loan, and the Giallorossi are now in ‘constant contact’ with the Premier League side in an effort to agree a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Rather surprisingly, the publication states that Roberto De Zerbi’s men would be willing to sell Udogie for just €25m (£21.3m).

Spurs are unlikely to consider Udogie sale after offloading Djed Spence

Even if De Zerbi sees Andy Robertson as his starting left-back, it is unlikely that he would rely on Ben Davies as the Scot’s main backup.

While Udogie’s constant injury issues may have made him more dispensable than he was previously at Tottenham, the club will likely want to get a replacement through the door if they move him on.

Finding a suitable replacement at this stage of the window will be difficult, which is why it seems silly to suggest that Spurs will accept £21m for Udogie.
