Tottenham star set to be sidelined for six weeks

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Mousa Dembele is likely to be out of action for around six weeks according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

The powerful midfielder picked up an ankle injury after just seven minutes of the 3-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. He had to be helped from the field of play by the Spurs medical team and was later spotted on a stretcher with bandaging around his ankle.

Dembele will also not be available for Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad for the Nations League matches against Iceland and Switzerland next week.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at Tottenham this summer with speculation in recent months suggesting he could walk away from the club with possible destinations including China and the Middle East.

It remains to be seen on whether Daniel Levy will be open to allowing Dembele to leave in January in order to receive a transfer fee or risk not receiving a penny in the summer when his contract expires.
