Tottenham starlet tipped to start at the World Cup at just 19 years of age as he continues to shine

Tottenham Hotspur have some talented young players and one of them has been backed for selection ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Luka Vuskovic is one of the most exciting talents Tottenham Hotspur have on their hands. The defender hit headlines last season after bagging seven goals and two assists for Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League.

Vuskovic joined up with the Tottenham first-team squad during the summer and impressed with a goal and assist in his first club appearance against Reading.

The Croatian has since been playing for Hamburg in the Bundeliga and his success has continued. Vuskovic recently won the Bundesliga rookie of the month award and he has since been named in the WhoScored team of the season.

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic backed to make Croatia World Cup squad

The Croatia manager recently said Vuskovic would be his team’s right back for the next 10 to 15 years. Two Croatian journalists who have been watching their country’s under-21s teams share that feeling.

According to Damir Dobrinić and Tvrtko Puljić, Vuskovic is likely to be a contender to make Croatia’s World Cup squad next summer.

Puljić told Sportske Novosti: “Em is the youngest, he is also the captain. There is already no dispute about him that he should be on the list for the World Cup.

“Vušković is improving in every game, every month, at every gathering, and we will get true value from him for the next ten years.”

Dobrinić’s comments are not as strong as his fellow journalist’s remarks, but he too believes there is a chance Vuskovic will go to the World Cup next year.

He said: “It would not surprise me, in the variant that Gvardiol will play at left back, if Vušković plays in a stopper pair with Šutalo.

“Anything is possible, HSV is playing very well. If Vušković makes another step or two, which he is constantly working on, it is not impossible that he will be a starter at the World Cup.”

Spurs are unlikely to recall Vuskovic in January

There had been speculation that Tottenham would attempt to bring Vuskovic back to North London a few months earlier than expected. However, Spurs are only allowed to cut Vuskovic’s loan short if they suffer multiple injuries.

As well as this, Vuskovic is happy at Hamburg and sees his time in Germany as an important stage in his development. Therefore, it is unlikely he will be seen in a Tottenham shirt this season.
