Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham still have other backup options in case a deal for Brennan Johnson does not materialise.

It was reported by Sky Sports yesterday afternoon that Spurs were lining up deals for multiple wide forwards before making a final decision on who to sign.

Apart from Johnson, it was alleged that Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko were also on the Lilywhites’ wishlist.

However, Fati no longer seems to be an option for Tottenham, with reports over the last few hours indicating that the forward is now set to sign join Brighton on a season-long loan deal (Daily Mail).

Spurs have contingency plans just in case

Romano has now told Kick Streaming (30/08/23) that Johnson remains Tottenham’s priority target, with the Wales international’s signing having been approved by Ange Posteocoglou himself.

However, the journalist added that the North London club are still ready to turn to other options if they are unable to strike a deal for the 22-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if PSV’s Bakayoko and Porto’s Pepe could be the alternatives that Tottenham have in mind for Johnson but I fully expect the club to get a deal for Wales international over the line before the transfer window, even if Forest stand firm on their £50m valuation.
