Tottenham suffer £52m Maxence Lacroix blow: Chelsea ready to offer cash-plus-player

Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Maxence Lacroix, who has emerged as one of the most consistent defenders across the Premier League this season.

Spurs still do not know which division they will be playing in next season, with the Lilywhites needing a point against Everton to secure their place in the Premier League.

However, reports over recent weeks indicate Cristian Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, even if they stay up.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side could thus enter the market for an experienced centre-back, but one of their targets is also on the wishlist of a fierce rival.

Chelsea enter race to land Tottenham target Maxence Lacroix

Tottenham explored a move for Maxence Lacroix last summer, and the Lilywhites’ interest in the Frenchman has not dwindled.

This is according to Sports Boom, who say that Spurs and Liverpool have both made checks on Lacroix this season, and they have now been joined in the race by Chelsea.

The Blues are eyeing a defensive overhaul this summer, with the former Wolfsburg man having been identified as one of their primary targets for the upcoming transfer.

The Chelsea hierarchy is planning to offer €40m (£34.6) plus Tosin Adarabioyo to Crystal Palace for their star defender.

What is Crystal Palace’s stance on Lacroix?

The interest in the French international is not restricted to the Premier League, with Sports Boom revealing that PSG and Real Madrid are also keeping eye on the defender.

Palace are aware that major clubs are ready to launch moves for Lacroix and they are considering offering him an improved contract in an effort to fend off the interest.

The publication adds that the Eagles are prepared to demand at least €60m (£52m) for the 26-year-old’s services.
