Tottenham suffer blow in pursuit of Brazilian talent with a £34.3m release clause

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a young Brazilian starlet just became a lot harder after the latest developments on his future.

Tottenham’s forward line has misfired so far this season, and it appears that the Lilywhites are considering entering the transfer market to solve that problem.

Over recent weeks, it has emerged that Spurs have been scouting a 19-year-old wide-forward, who is turning a lot of heads in Brazilian football.

Regular readers of this website would have guessed that we are talking about Vasco Da Gama starlet Rayan, for whom Tottenham have allegedly explored getting a work permit ahead of a potential January move.

However, the Lilywhites have now sustained a big blow in their pursuit of the youngster.

Vasco Da Gama have agreed a new contract with Tottenham target Rayan

According to a report in O Globo, Vasco have now reached an agreement with the forward to extend his deal, which was initially set to run out next year.

The club have made this move to protect itself amidst the constant interest from Europe in their prized asset. An understanding has been reached with Rayan’s representatives and his family to extend his contract until 2028.

The new deal will not only see the rumoured Spurs target’s salary go up, but it also allows the player’s family to retain a portion of his ownership and economic rights.

Has Rayan’s release clause been increased?

It was reported by Bolavip last month that Vasco are looking to increase Rayan’s release clause to £60m.

However, this update by O Globo suggests that the forward’s release clause remains at €40m (£34.3m) despite the contract extension.

Interestingly, it is asserted that sources inside Vasco expect any sale of Rayan to fall between €25m to €30m (£21.8m-£26m).
