Tottenham suspend first-team star for Leicester City match – Postecoglou reveals

Yves Bissouma has been a hot topic this week, but not for the right reasons, after the midfielder shared a video on social media of him using laughing gas. Now, his manager, Ange Postecoglou, has spoken on the matter for the first time, and revealed the midfielder has been suspended by the club.

What did Bissouma do?

Possession of laughing gas (also known as nitrous oxide or NOS) for recreational was made a criminal offence in the UK in 2023. Being found guilty can even result in a two-year prison sentence.

So, when The Sun shared images and details of Bissouma allegedly consuming NOS in a limo with his friends, which he posted on Snapchat (before later deleting), it has caused uproar and concerns among Tottenham fans.

It had been said the incident was being dealt with internally, and was Bissouma waiting to see what, if any, punishment he would receive.

Bissouma will not play against Leicester

Speaking to the press (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked what is going on with Bissouma’s situation, and replied: “I’ve been in the game for a long time, when a situation like this arises, I’ve tried to look at them in a couple of ways. First, there’s a person and it’s Biss and he’s made a poor decision.

“There are still sanctions involved, and some of those are educational. He is a footballer with responsibilities. He won’t be available on Monday. We’ve suspended him from the game.”

Discussing what Bissouma needs to do to repair the relationship, Postecoglou added: “He needs to build that trust back with both me and the group. The door is open for him and we can help him realise the decisions he makes impact the group.

“Behaviour mate. It’s that simple. It’s about making better decisions. He was very apologetic to me, the club and everyone involved but that’s just part of it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is absolutely the right call. Bissouma’s behaviour has been stupid, to say the least, and there’s no way he would have deserved to play against Leicester as a result.

Hopefully, the matter can be resolved swiftly and Bissouma can learn from this huge mistake very quickly.
