Cristian Romero’s inclusion in Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers has angered Spurs fans on social media, but a new report has now shed light on what the feeling at Tottenham is about the announcement.
Romero last featured for Tottenham four months ago against Chelsea, with Ange Postecoglou making it clear over recent weeks that Spurs are trying to be very careful in managing the centre-back’s workload.
The Spurs vice-captain is now thought to be very close to a return, with the game against Bournemouth being put forward as a possible return date for Romero.
To some people’s surprise, Lionel Scaloni decided to include Romero in his Argentina squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil later this month.

What Tottenham feel about Romero’s call-up
The Telegraph have revealed that the decision has not caught Spurs by surprise. In fact, they say that the club actually gave the green light to the Argentine FA to pick the 26-year-old.
Even though Romero has not played for the Lilywhites in six months, the club have decided that he is ready to travel to South America to play in the upcoming crunch games for his national side.
The outlet adds that Spurs insiders have pointed out that the club have been in regular and close contact with all the national federations of their players, and it would be ‘extremely rare’ for a player to be called up before they are first intimated.
Postecoglou will be hoping Romero’s minutes are managed
Postecoglou would certainly not want to stop any of his players from going on national duty as he knows how much it means to those players.
However, one would hope that he and others at Spurs will be in touch with the Argentine coaching and medical staff about managing Romero’s workload.
The Australian will be hoping that the centre-back is not asked to play 90 minutes in both of the Albiceleste’s matches.
