Report: Spurs target absent from training as he attempts to force move

According to Get French Football News, Houssem Aouar is absent from Lyon training and has gone AWOL in an attempt to force a transfer through this summer.

He has reportedly been missing for the last five days of Lyon’s pre-season training and GFFN also reported that the Lyon midfielder was disappointed in his club for failing to keep Memphis Depay and letting him move to Barcelona on a free transfer.

Tottenham are reportedly set to rival Arsenal this summer for the talented midfielder in an attempt to add some creativity to their midfield.

The 23-year-old is very highly regarded. He made 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon in the last campaign, contributing 10 combined goals and assists (Transfermarkt).

Lyon didn’t achieve Champions League football again and now it appears that Aouar is trying to force a move away by not turning up to training.

The Sun have reported that Arsenal were priced out of a move for the Frenchman last summer because Lyon valued him at £55m.

However, this summer the Ligue 1 club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League means that Aouar could now potentially cost as little as £20m.

Aouar is a great midfielder. He has proved his worth at Lyon but he does seem desperate for a Premier League move.

If reports of a £20 million fee is true, that does seem like an absolute bargain for a midfielder of such talent at a young age.

But with hopes of Champions League football, it does make Tottenham and Arsenal’s bargaining stance less powerful.
