Tottenham target refuses to commit future to club

Tottenham were linked heavily with Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon last year but a deal failed to materialise (Telegraph).

The 18-year-old instead remained at Craven Cottage and experienced his first taste of Premier League football this season.

While Sessegnon initially struggled to impose himself on games, he has certainly improved as the season has gone on. The England Under-21 international who has featured at left back, left wing and right wing this season, has netted two goals and registered 6 assists so far this campaign (Premier League).

The pacey wide man’s future has once again been a source of much speculation following the confirmation of Fulham’s relegation back to the Championship. It now appears that the teenager has dropped a hint about his future by refusing to rule out a move from Fulham this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 18-year-old said: “I’m still a Fulham player, contracted until 2020. So I’m still a Fulham player and in terms of that, that’s all I can say at the moment.”

So could Spurs finalise a deal this summer for the player who has reportedly been a long-term target for the club?

Spurs Web’s Opinion:

Sessegnon’s comments certainly seem to indicate that he is open to a move away from Fulham, and an opportunity to sign for Tottenham and continue his development under Mauricio Pochettino could prove too tempting a prospect to turn down.

With his contract expiring in 2020, Fulham will have to sell him this summer if they wish to get decent money for their highly-rated prospect. However, other top clubs in England and on the continent are also likely to be interested in Sessegnon meaning that Spurs may have to move quick to get their man.
