Tottenham target rejects contrat extension as he nears free agent status

Tottenham Hotspur became the very first Premier League club not to sign a player in the summer transfer window this year.

Spurs did show considerable interest in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, but a late £25m bid was turned down by the Championship club.

One other player who Spurs were reported to be tracking was FC Porto’s Hector Herrera.

talkSPORT claim that Spurs are after the Porto centre mid, with Spurs lacking real quality in that position.

Wanyama is just back from injury, Eric Dier has been inconsistent all season, and Mousa Dembele can only manage a certain number of minutes due to his own injury issues.

Herrera would fill a much-needed role at Tottenham, and the midfield star’s contract actually runs out next summer, when he will become a free agent.

Reports from CM Jornal now suggest that Herrera has turned down three separate contract extension offers from Porto, implying that he is keen to force through a free transfer come 2019.

Should Spurs wait for him?
