Tottenham target speaks out on transfer interest

Tottenham Hotspur may not have signed a single new player this season, but they were linked with plenty of stars in the January transfer window.

The Irish Independent reported last month that Spurs were interested in the high-flying Wolves right back Matt Doherty.

Spurs have had some issues in right back this season, with Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier both proving to be a little unreliable defensively at times.

Doherty has been incredible both offensively and defensively in Wolves’ first season back in the Prem, and the 27-year-old put an end to speculation by signing a contract extension in February, keeping him at the club until 2023.

Wolves are currently seventh in the Premier League, and also have an FA Cup quarter final to look forward to this season.

Doherty has now claimed that he had no idea if any other Prem sides were interested in him in January or not, implying that no contact was made.

He also stated he had no interest in leaving Wolves.

Doherty said (RTE’s 2FM): “I’m totally unsure on that. There was no interest on my behalf to do that. We’re seventh in the Premier League right now.”
