Team News: Postecoglou says South American star will miss Newcastle vs Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of tomorrow’s match against Newcastle United during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham make the long trip north to St James’ Park tomorrow for the early lunchtime kick-off as they look to maintain their grip on fourth place.

Last weekend’s 3-1 over Nottingham Forest saw the North Londoners move back ahead of Aston Villa into the top four due to their slightly superior goal difference.

The trip to Tyneside was a painful one last season with Tottenham suffering an embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle under the management of interim boss Cristian Stellini which also proved to be Hugo Lloris‘ final appearance for the club.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs first-team squad ahead of the clash against Eddie Howe’ side.

Richarlison sat out the victory over Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a minor knee issue.

Fraser Forster, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon both remained sidelined through injury.

The Magpies come into the match in eighth place in the table, having beaten Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage last time out.

Postecoglou told SpursPLAY this afternoon that the Newcastle match comes too soon for Richarlison, but everyone else came through the win over Nottingham Forest without further injuries.

He said: “Not for this week [Richarlison]. He’s close and. obviously with the weekend off next weekend, it’ll give him time to recover – and he’s on track to do that. Everyone else from last weekend has got through unscathed and are ready to go.”
