Tottenham told they signed the next Josko Gvardiol for £66m cheaper than Man City

Tottenham Hotspur managed to secure an absolute bargain back in 2023 if the player turns out to be as good as Josko Gvardiol.

Spurs signed Vuskovic for £12m from Hajduk Split in 2023 when he was 16 years of age, and he was initially loaned back to the Croatian club before having further loan spells at Radomiak Radom in Romania and Westerlo in Belgium.

The centre-back arrived at Tottenham Hotspur for the first time ahead of this season before joining Hamburg on loan, and the teenager has shown his class in the Bundesliga.

In fact, the Spurs man is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe due to his outstanding performances for HSV.

Luka Vuskovic’s agent reveals how Tottenham won the race for centre-back

The 18-year-old’s agent, Leo Dragicevic, has now revealed that there was no shortage of interest in his client two years ago and that he tried to move him to Serie A.

However, he explained that Tottenham moved decisively to strike a deal with Hajduk Split before any Italian clubs could act.

Dragicevic told TuttoMercatoWeb about Vuskovic: “I was in a situation where I tried to bring him to Italy, but Tottenham were quicker. Italian clubs need to react faster. Croatia is a nearby country and Croatian players adapt easily in Italy, but if you hesitate, you lose opportunities like this.”

Some reports indicate that Tottenham are ready to offer Vuskovic an improved contract to keep him from the clutches of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Dragicevic has now suggested that his client is the best young centre-back in the world and backed him to reach the heights of his compatriot Josko Gvardiol. Considering Man City paid £78m for Gvardiol and Spurs paid just £12m for Vuskovic, that would be some going.

He added: “If we talk about defenders, Gvardiol has been doing top-level things for years. Now Luka Vuskovic is following in his footsteps. At this moment, he may be the best young defender in the world because his numbers are impressive.

“He shows everything a modern defender needs. Aerial duels, carrying the ball forward, impressive technique. He plays as if he already has 500 matches in his legs.”
