Tottenham transfer round-up: Mathys Tel ultimatum, new winger targeted, Thomas Frank admission

With the January window about to close, we take one last look at the latest Tottenham transfer rumours and reports that could lead to something before deadline day.

It’s been a disappointing month for Spurs. Not only are the Lilywhites without a win in the league this year, but they’ve also only been able to get two signings over the line.

Whether Tottenham can add any more faces to Thomas Frank’s depleted squad before the window slams shut is still uncertain, but we really hope they do.

We were worried, briefly, that Spurs might be tempted to sign Raheem Sterling as a free agent. Thankfully, that’s been quashed, but there are plenty of other deals that could still happen.

Tottenham transfer round-up: What’s happening with Mathys Tel and Radu Dragusin?

All month, we’ve been getting updates around Mathys Tel’s future at Spurs. Despite only signing for the Lilywhites on a permanent basis in the summer, the young Frenchman is reportedly unhappy that he’s not been given enough gametime.

It was thought Tottenham had told Tel he would be staying. That makes sense, given the injury crisis at the club, but the story has taken a new twist. Apparently, Tel’s agent has told Tottenham he wants to leave before the transfer deadline.

Speaking of agents, Radu Dragusin’s representative says he’s not heard anything about the player’s proposed move to Italy. AC Milan are keen and it’s believed Spurs have lowered the asking price, but whether it happens is another matter.

Spurs want Moussa Diaby

Spurs have been looking for a new winger all month, and the latest name linked is Moussa Diaby. You may remember he made a big impact at Aston Villa in 2023/24 before moving to Saudi Arabia, but it looks like his time there is over.

The Al-Ittihad star wants to move on, and Tottenham are battling Inter Milan for his signature. Rumours suggest Inter are winning the race, but we’ll have to see how this one plays out.

Spurs will be hoping they can capture the Frenchman, as they look destined to miss out on Serge Gnabry. Tottenham are thought to have made a shock approach for the Bayern Munich man, but to no avail.

Thomas Frank speaks out on January transfer window

Spurs boss Thomas Frank has been very open about the processes behind the scenes in January, and he’s said some fairly interesting things again in the last day or two.

First of all, it sounds like Spurs fans can expect little to no business to be wrapped up before deadline day. Instead, Frank believes the club will go ‘big’ in the summer.

Meanwhile, Frank also revealed Spurs really wanted to sign Antoine Semenyo. He insisted he does have the backing and funding of the Lewis family behind him, but that was one deal they couldn’t get done.

Tottenham transfer round-up: Cristian Romero, Iliman Ndiaye, Joshua Zirkzee

Let’s have one last, quick blitz of the Tottenham transfer news, shall we?

We have long been worried about Micky van de Ven been snapped up by an elite team. However, it’s actually Cristian Romero that Real Madrid are eyeing up next. A late £87m bid for the Spurs captain has been mooted.

Elsewhere, Spurs and Man United both want Iliman Ndiaye. However, the Everton star could cost as much as £75m, so let’s not hold our breath on that one.

Finally, while we’re talking about Man United, there are rumours that Tottenham will make a surprise move for Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman is expected to push for an exit from Old Trafford, but Crystal Palace, Roma, and Juventus are also in the hunt.
