Tottenham Hotspur have been told that it will be next to impossible to sign a 24-year-old midfielder, who is going from strength to strength in the Serie A.
Not everyone is convinced that the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha partnership is the answer for Tottenham, with some feeling that the pairing leaves the Lilywhites devoid of creativity.
That might be why Spurs are thought to be exploring midfield options on the market ahead of the January window.
It has now emerged that Thomas Frank’s men tested the waters over signing a French international back in the summer and were met with a clear response.

Tottenham’s approach for Juventus star was turned down
According to TBR Football, Tottenham are fans of Juventus star Khephren Thuram, who has become one of the Bianconeri’s most important players since swapping Nice for Turin in the summer of 2024.
The outlet says that Spurs made an inquiry for the 24-year-old as they wanted to take advantage of Juve’s difficult financial situation.
However, the Serie A giants made it clear to Tottenham that Thuram was not for sale, while the Italian club also batted away approaches from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool for the midfielder.
Former Spurs director has special plans for Khephren Thuram
Former Tottenham director of football, Damien Comolli, currently serves as the Old Lady’s general manager, and it has now been revealed that he is a big fan of Thuram.
This is shared by journalist Graeme Bailey, who suggested that Spurs may have to forget about signing the Frenchman, as Comolli considers the midfielder ‘untouchable’.
When asked about the 24-year-old’s future, Bailey told TBR Football: “Thuram is one of those players that Premier League clubs had the chance to land before Juve took him from Nice.
“Juve took that chance and have been rewarded, Thuram’s form since arriving in Italy has been spectacular – he was not even in the France squad, let alone pushing for a starting spot, he has really kicked on.
“Now, along with Yildiz, Comolli believes he has something special, and he is getting calls – we know that, but they have no interest in letting either of these two go, they are both deemed as ‘untouchable’ by Juve at this point.”
