An experienced Italian centre-back, who is wanted by Tottenham, is focused on only one goal at the moment, and it has nothing to do with joining Spurs.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are not guaranteed to be at Tottenham beyond the summer, with some at Spurs fearing one or both of them could seek an exit.

Although the Lilywhites would not want to lose either player, one would expect them to come up with contingency plans ahead of the summer amidst the uncertainty over the Dutchman’s and the Argentine’s future.

Over recent days, it has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are big fans of an experienced Serie A defender, but the player now has only one thought on his mind.

Tottenham target Federico Gatti is focused on one goal ahead of the summer

It was reported by TuttoSport earlier this week that Spurs had expressed their interest in Juventus’ Federico Gatti ahead of the summer window.

Now, a new report in Gazzetta dello Sport takes a closer look at the centre-back’s situation and states that his future in Turin is ‘unclear’ even though his current deal runs until 2030.

The report does not name Tottenham, but it does say that ‘several English clubs are considering’ landing Gatti in the summer. TransferMarkt have Gatti’s market value set at €20m (£17.4m).

However, for the moment, the 27-year-old does not want to get distracted by the transfer talk and has his sights set on just one thing.

The defender is focused on having a strong finish to the season with Juventus and getting into the Azzurri squad for the World Cup.

Could the World Cup complicate Tottenham’s summer plans?

Reports indicate that Tottenham are prepared to undertake an ambitious squad rebuild in the summer after a quiet January window.

However, with the World Cup set to get underway this summer, Spurs may not be able to do early deals for their top targets.

Many big-name players on Tottenham’s radar may not want any transfer distraction in the middle of the tournament, and the North Londoners may thus be forced to wait until the end of the tournament to push through some big signings.
