Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for a Championship midfielder who impressed against their North London rivals Arsenal recently.

It remains to be seen how the Spurs midfield will look in Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, with the Italian’s system demanding technical proficiency in the middle of the park.

One would expect Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to become key players under the Italian, but the new Spurs head coach may also want to add further reinforcements to his midfield this summer.

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites are considering raiding a Championship side for their main creative fulcrum.

Tottenham eyeing move for Leo Scienza after his masterclass against Arsenal

ESPN Brazil have now claimed that Southampton midfielder Leo Scienza has emerged as an option for Tottenham this summer.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play out wide, has been a consistent performer for the Saints since his move from German side Heidenheim last season, having six goals and eight assists to his name in his 31 Championship outings.

The Brazilian’s performances have brought him to the attention of Spurs as well as other Premier League clubs, with Aston Villa, Fulham, Everton and Leeds United also fans of the player.

The attacking midfielder delivered a Man of the Match display against Arsenal last weekend as the Saints dumped the Gunners out of the FA Cup, which may have convinced suitors that he is ready to make the step up to the top-flight.

What is Scienza’s transfer stance?

Scienza is a late bloomer, and ESPN Brazil suggest that he is now keen on making the most of the time he has left in his career.

The report claims that even though the 27-year-old only moved to St Mary’s last summer, he is now ‘looking to take the next step in his career’.

The outlet adds that Scienza has no intention to return to Brazil anytime soon, with the attacking midfielder keen to continue his journey in Europe.
