‘Tottenham were informed’ – Fabrizio Romano gives update on 22-year-old’s future

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs are yet to make any contact with Lille or Jonathan David’s entourage ahead of the January transfer window.

David has been on Tottenham’s radar for quite a while, with the Lilywhites first being linked with the Canadian over two and half years ago when he was at Gent (Het Laatste Nieuws).

The forward’s reputation has blossomed even further since his switch to Lille in 2020 and he has been one of the most prolific players in French football, particularly over the last 18 months.

Todofichajes reported last week that Spurs have ‘carefully observed’ David’s performances at the World Cup and are considering making a move for him in January.

The 22-year-old admitted in an interview with The Sun a couple of days ago that he wants to play in the Premier League ‘some day’.

Romano has now opined that David would be ‘a great solution’ for Spurs but revealed that Antonio Conte’s men are yet to make a move for the striker.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Jonathan David has made it clear he wants to play in the Premier League, so where could the Lille striker end up? At the moment there are no conversations or contacts between Spurs and Lille or Jonathan David’s agents.

“Tottenham were informed on David one year ago but it’s still quiet now. I think he’d be great solution for many clubs, including Tottenham; he’s a very good striker.”

David is a talented forward but he can only play through the middle, which is why he does not fit the profile of forward that Conte is likely after in January.

Richarlison is more than capable of playing as the centre-forward if Kane needs a rest or picks up an injury. So, I expect Spurs to instead go after an attacker of Kulusevski’s mould, who is good at carrying the ball.
