“Tottenham will always have a place in my heart” – Midfielder posts goodbye message

It was not too long ago that Tashan Oakley-Boothe was thought of as a future first-team prospect by many at Tottenham (Football.London).

The midfielder, who rose through the ranks at Spurs, impressed during pre-season a pe-season match against Spanish outfit Girona in 2018.

Until 2017, it’s fair to say that many fancied him to be the next midfield talent from the academy to break into the team following in the footsteps of Harry Winks.

Since then, the 19-year-old’s career as stalled a little partly due to injury problems and he has been leapfrogged by the likes of Luke Amos and Oliver Skipp.

However, it was still a surprise when Spurs announced on deadline day that they had reached a deal with Stoke City for the permanent transfer of Oakley-Boothe.

The midfielder has since taken to Twitter to send an emotional message thanking everybody at the club for their role in his development.

Spurs Web Opinion

The teenager has been extremely unfortunate with injuries. Who knows what could have been if he had pushed on in the last couple of years. However, we seem to be fairly well stocked in the central midfield positions with the likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Dele, Winks, Gedson and Skipp all 23 or below. So it was probably the right decision to sell him.
