Tottenham will qualify for Champions League knockouts if they make it 25 in-a-row

Tottenham Hotspur’s latest Champions League victory did more than edge them closer to the knockout stages, as it also underlined a remarkable home European run that continues to grow.

Tottenham Hotspur now have one foot in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League following their recent 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Europa League winners have struggled for consistency in the Premier League and sit rather close to the relegation zone, with just ten points separating them from 18th-placed West Ham United.

However, in Europe, they have been a different animal, particularly at home, where they have maintained a near-flawless record.

Tottenham extend unbeaten home European run

The 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night saw Spurs extend their impressive home record in Europe to 24 games without defeat.

The North London side have not lost since a 1-0 UEFA Champions League round-of-16 first-leg defeat to RB Leipzig in February 2020, almost six years ago.

That unbeaten run spans the Europa League, Champions League and Europa Conference League.

In the Europa League, Tottenham have gone 13 games without defeat, while they are unbeaten in eight Champions League matches and three Europa Conference League fixtures, recording 19 wins and four draws overall.

During that period, Spurs have scored 65 goals and conceded just 13, keeping 15 clean sheets along the way.

Spurs eye strong Champions League finish

Spurs now sit fourth in the Champions League league phase and will be hoping to avoid defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt in their final league-phase fixture.

The Europa League winners will be keen to put together a strong run in the competition, having been knocked out in the round of 16 the last time they featured in the Champions League during the 2022-23 season.

Their impressive home record was not the only one extended on the night, as Spurs’ victory over Borussia Dortmund also continued their strong run against the German side, having now won five consecutive meetings in the Champions League after losing their first two encounters during the 2015-16 Europa League round of 16 tie.
