Tottenham win against Everton made Premier League history with the incredible stat

Tottenham Hotspur were looking to throw their name into the hat for the title race this Christmas, but what they ended up doing was cannoning themselves into contention.

Spurs faced a tough trip away to Everton to close the gap to just two points from Manchester City, and a further four to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

However, Tottenham made it look anything but tough as they romped to a 6-2 win at Goodison Park.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son both grabbed braces, and Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen chipped in with goals of their own.

This secured all three points in style for Tottenham, but more importantly, it catapulted them over the 40 point mark in the League. Historically, fans have been looking to achieve 40 points as reassurance against relegation such is how far we have progressed.

This represents Tottenham’s best ever start to a Premier League season, but it also has greater significance for the competition as a whole.

With Liverpool on 48, Man City on 44, and Spurs on 42, this is the first ever Premier League season in which three teams have all surpassed the 40 point mark by Christmas.

This shows exactly the kind of standard this season has thrown up, and Tottenham are well and truly in the mix for a trophy.
