Tottenham winger may have suffered a ‘small knock ahead of Man City match

Tottenham insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news on the club’s academy, has now commented on one player’s curious omission from the matchday squad against Manchester City and suggested that his absence may have ben injury related.

Tottenham have been boosted by the returns of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert over the last few weeks.

More good news appears to be around the corner for Ange Posteocglou, with Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke expected to be back in action within the next couple of matches.

However, it has now been suggested that Spurs might have suffered another injury after a winger was missing from the squad on Wednesday.

Timo Werner was selected ahead of Mikey Moore for Man City loss

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou rang the changes for Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Man City, with Wilson Odobert, Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson coming into the startling eleven in place of Heung-min Son, Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski.’

However, curiously, Mikey Moore did not even get a place on the bench, and the club have not provided any update on the winger’s fitness with loanee Timo Werner instead picked.

The 17-year-old did have a lengthy spell on the sidelines with illness earlier in the season and Wenham suggested that moore might have picked up a knock.

The Spurs insider told Tottenham News: “I don’t think Moore will be feeling any type of way about being left out. He might have suffered a small knock because you’ve got to remember before the game against City, Moore had started four out of five.

“Therefore, it would be unusual if he was suddenly left out of the squad, and he hadn’t suffered an injury of some sort. As a result, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has suffered a small knock.

“However, I expect to see him return to the squad against AZ Alkmaar, because Timo Werner is of course now ineligible in the UEFA Europa League.”

Ange Postecoglou now has an embarrassment of riches in attack

Postecoglou now has Heung-min Son, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel, Mikey Moore, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dejan Kulusevski battling it out for three positions.

The competition for places will intensify even further when Dominic Solanke and Richarlison return to fitness over the next few weeks.

The possibility of Moore getting a lot of game time over the coming months seems very slim as the Australian may favour experience as Spurs launch an assault on the Europa League trophy.
