Tottenham youngster wins his club’s Young Player of the Season award out on loan

Ashley Phillips has expressed his delight after being voted Plymouth Argyle’s Young Player of the Season following his 6-month loan spell.

Phillips, who arrived at Spurs last summer on the back of a breakthrough season at Blackburn Rovers, joined Plymouth on loan in January.

The centre-back showed maturity beyond his years at the Home Park Stadium, being a fixture in the Pilgrims’ back three and helping them secure their Championship status by the skin of their teeth.

Ashley Phillips voted Young Player of the Season

Despite spending just half a season at the club, the 18-year-old has been voted the club’s Young Player of the Season, which shows the kind of impact he made in the southwest.

Phillips admitted that he is grateful and honoured to be chosen for the award in an interview with Plymouth’s official website.

The centre-back is now back at Hotspur Way, having been pictured training with the Spurs first-team ahead of their clash against Burnley.

Centre-backs take the longest to develop when compared with other positions as the role requires sound judgment, with players needing some experience before mastering the position.

The fact that Phillips has already turned in impressive displays in a back four and a back three at 18 years of age shows the kind of potential he has.
