Tottenham’s £10million signing left on the bench

While Tottenham Hotspur fans will firmly have their eye on their own results this season, some will be forgiven for checking on the progress of Leeds United.

The Championship outfit failed to gain promotion to the top flight last season and saw Spurs swoop for one of their brightest talents during the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended their 518-day wait to bring in a fresh face to their squad when they signed Jack Clarke from the Elland Road outfit for £10million (The Sun).

As part of the agreement, the 18-year-old was loaned back to his former club for the 2019/20 campaign in order to continue his footballing education under Marcelo Bielsa.

Clarke only made four starts for Leeds in the Championship last season and came off the bench on twenty occasions.

Opinion

Somewhat surprisingly in the eyes of this Spurs fan, Clarke was named among the substitutes for Leeds’ Championship opener on Sunday and did not even make it onto the pitch during the 3-1 win (BBC).

Spurs fans will be hoping that Bielsa starts to blood Clarke into matches soon in order for him to come back to North London full of experience and ready to compete for a place in the first team.
