Tottenham’s average age vs Premier League rivals shows there is hope for the future

We know Tottenham are struggling in the Premier League this season, but one statistic may well be part of the reason for this.

Sure, we don’t want to give Thomas Frank and the Spurs squad any excuses. Performances and results have been poor, and they have to take responsibility for that.

Frank shared a long message with fans after the draw against Burnley, largely hoping to reassure supporters that things will turn around under his stewardship.

Tottenham are down in 14th place in the Premier League table at the moment. However, when it comes to the average age of the squad, the Lilywhites actually rank pretty high for giving youth a chance.

Where Tottenham rank in Premier League average age

At present, the Spurs squad has an average age of 25.5 years. That puts them level with league rivals Bournemouth and Frank’s former club, Brentford.

In fact, only Sunderland (25.4) and Chelsea (23.7) have a younger squad than the Lilywhites. Tottenham narrowly beat Man United in this metric, with the Red Devils registering an average age of 25.7 years.

Rounding out the top ten are Wolves (25.8), Liverpool (26.0), Crystal Palace (26.1) and Arsenal (26.2).

The oldest squad in the Premier League is Fulham, at 28.9 years old. Newcastle have the second-oldest (28.0) while Aston Villa are third at 27.4 years old.

Key Spurs youngsters who will become crucial in years to come

Tottenham have long been a team eager to give young players a chance, and that’s clearly continuing under Thomas Frank.

Indeed, players like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray are bright talents who will only continue to get better and become more important for the Lilywhites. The teenagers have featured fairly prominently this season and are considered integral to Tottenham’s future.

Additions like Mathys Tel (20), Xavi Simons (22), Wilson Odobert (21), and new signing Souza (19) only serve to keep that average low.

If the likes of Mikey Moore, Jamie Donley, and Luka Vuskovic — all out on loan this season — come back for 2026/27 and become part of the first-team squad, we will likely see that average drop even lower.
