Tottenham’s interest in African forward confirmed by senior figure

Gambia Football Federation vice-president Bakary Jammeh has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in young sensation Adama Bojang.

Bojang, who currently plies his trade for with Steve Biko FC, a local Gambian outfit located near the capital of Banjul, turned a lot of heads with his performances at the Under-20s African Cup of Nations, which included a quarter-final hat-trick over South Sudan.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Spurs were one of the Premier League clubs eyeing a move for the teenager, who was also said to be on the radar of Nottingham Forest.

The report added that the 18-year-old, who is nicknamed ‘the Gambian Hurricane’, was also being closely watched by both Ajax and Marseille ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jammeh has now said that the 6ft 3ins centre-forward is wanted by Tottenham, as well as Egyptian giants, Al Ahly.

The GFF vice-president told Sada El-Balad (as relayed by King Fut): “In addition to Tottenham, I have also heard about Al Ahly’s interest in Adama Bojang. But there is nothing official yet. If they want to sign him, they will have to start negotiations with Steve Biko. I really hope that Bojang moves to the highest level possible, and succeeds in his next step.”

Meanwhile, reporter Ahmed Schubert suggested that Bojang would be in favour of a switch to Al Ahly.

He told Elbalad News: “Bojang made televised statements in which he very much welcomed the idea of playing in Al-Ahly. He stressed that he would be happy to have negotiations with the club.”

Just because Tottenham are keeping an eye on Bojang, does not mean an offer is imminent. Besides, young African players rarely make a straight jump to the Premier League and usually use Ligue 1 as their gateway into European football.
