Pedro Porro steps up for Spain

While Porro did not have the best of outings against Denmark on Saturday, the Tottenham man showed what he can do in the clash against Serbia in Cordoba.

The home side brushed the Serbs aside 3-0 to seal their place in the quarterfinal of the Nations League, with the 24-year-old being a constant threat down the right with his crossing through the 90 minutes.

Porro’s brilliant assist

The right-back was the architect of the home side’s first goal as he produced a lovely floated cross after a short-corner routine, with Aymeric Laporte turning the ball home at the far post.

The Tottenham man then won a penalty for his side in the 52nd minute as his shot from inside the box was blocked with a protruding hand from a Serbian defender, but Alvaro Morata blazed the ball over the bar from the spot.

Morata did get on the scoresheet 13 minutes later while Alex Baena’s well-struck 77th-minute free-kick put the icing on the cake for the Spaniards.

Porro now first choice at right-back?

With his performance on Tuesday, the Tottenham man certainly did not do any harm to his prospects of becoming Luis de la Fuente’s first-choice option at right-back.

With Dani Carvajal now past his best, Porro looks well poised to be a regular for the European champions for many years to come.
