Training video hints at possible back four line-up for Spurs with Udogie and Porro missing

A video of Tottenham Hotspur training has emerged today which could hint at a possible defensive back line of Emerson Royal, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies for this weekend’s game against Wolves.

When everyone is fit, it has become pretty clear that the preferred defensive line-up for Ange Postecoglou would be Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie in the full-back roles, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the middle.

The quartet have started the majority of games together this season, and have played consistently over the last month.

However, ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wolves, it has been revealed that both Porro and Udogie may be unavailable for selection this weekend as they deal with potential injury concerns.

As per Tottenham insider, Paul O Keefe, is suffering with a ‘muscular issue’ while Udogie is being assessed with his own problem and has not ‘trained fully this week’.

Injury concerns over Porro and Udogie ahead of Wolves

Now, we may have been shown the solution to these issues for the upcoming game, as a video from a recent training session has emerged (via Scarfey Spurs Talk) that suggests Emerson Royal and Ben Davies will be stepping into the starting XI on either flank.

The standard training drill that the Spurs defence carries out is being utilised once more, where the back four move in tandem across the pitch to maintain their high defensive line.

The only difference this time is that there was no Porro and no Udogie, with Royal and Davies taking their place. It would appear very likely that they are being prepared for Saturday’s game.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s not ideal, as Porro and Udogie offer something completely different going forward compared to Royal and Ben Davies.

I do trust the latter pair defensively, so we should remain solid at the back regardless, however, the pace that Wolves possess could be a concern down Davies’ side of the pitch.
