Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano offers update on Tottenham’s Skriniar pursuit

Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are still in talks with Inter Milan regarding Milan Skriniar.

It was reported last week that Tottenham had sent representatives to Italy to negotiate a deal for the central defender (Calcio Mercato), with reports indicating that the Slovak had already agreed on personal terms with the North Londoners (Corriere Dello Sport).

Gazzetta Dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) reported last Friday that the two clubs were still some way apart in their valuation of the 25-year-old, with Skriniar already having his heart set on a move to North London.

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the central defender is Jose Mourinho’s number one target before the transfer window shuts on October 5.

Romano revealed, however, that while Inter want €60 million for the defender, Spurs were only willing to pay around €30m to €35m for him.

While the journalist suggested that the deal will not be easy to complete, he made it clear that talks are still on between the two clubs.

This comes after Piero Ausilio, the Inter Milan sporting director, claimed that the Slovakian defender is not for sale this summer (DASN (26/10/20) as translated by SempreInter).

I would be surprised if this deal fell through especially given the groundwork that we seemingly laid last week with Steve Hitchen flying to Italy to meet Skriniar’s agent. Reports indicate that there is a willingness from all three parties for the deal to go through. So, it looks a question of how much we are going to pay for Skriniar rather than whether or not the deal is going ahead.
