Transfermarkt have now given a list of the most valuable players in each position across the Premier League and one Tottenham man makes their list.
Surprise entry in the list
Most Tottenham fans would assume the player to top the list might be someone like Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro or perhaps even Dejan Kulusevski.
However, none of those made the most valuable Premier League XI, with the defence, midfield and attack dominated by Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool stars.
The only Spurs man who makes the eleven is Guglielmo Vicario, who according to Transfermarkt, is the most valuable goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Vicario’s value
Vicario has become an increasingly important member of the Tottenham side since his move from Empoli a little over a year ago.
Not only has the Italian proved himself to be a world-class shot-stopper but he is also crucial to the way the Lilywhites play out from the back and has even joined the club’s leadership group this season.
Transfermarkt have now assigned the 27-year-old a value of €35m, which is more than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Not representative of true value
Transfermarkt calculates a player’s value based on a number of different factors, including their performance, age and length of contract.
However, the values they assign are not usually an accurate reflection of the market values of different players as that is dictated by supply and demand, among other factors.
For example, Transfermarkt have given Gabriel Magalhaes a higher value than Micky van de Ven, but should both players be on the market tomorrow, there is no doubt that the Dutchman would fetch a bigger fee, given his age and high ceiling.
