A slightly bizarre transfer story has reared its head today, according to the Telegraph Tottenham Hotspur are close to the signing of Burnley’s Kieran Trippier.
Trippier operates as a right-back and is available for around £3.5million following the Clarets relegation from the Premier League. Apparently we have beaten Liverpool to the signature of the former England Under-21 international.
If this is true, does it mean that DeAndre Yedlin is not actually viewed as a serious contender for Kyle Walker’s right-back berth or was it just a marketing gimmick?
Tripper’s contract contains a £3.5m release clause, of which Manchester City, stand to receive over £1.2m from any deal of which they inserted a 40% sell-on clause when they sold Trippier in 2012.
He made 41 appearances in all competitions for Burnley this season but it does seem bizarre that we are focusing on another right-back considering the recent arrivals of Yedlin and Dier.
