Troy Parrott has confessed his regret that AZ Alkmaar did not put two or three goals past Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday and took responsibility for missing a gilt-edged chance against his former side.
Parrott joined Alkmaar in a deal worth £6.7m from Tottenham last summer after impressing on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam last term.
The 23-year-old has had a fabulous first season at the AFAS Stadium, with 17 goals and three assists to his name so far this campaign.
The former Tottenham man fluffed a great opportunity to add to his tally against his former side in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash on Thursday, and he admits that he should have buried the chance.

Troy Parrott makes admission about missed opportunity
Alkmaar were very good value for their 1-0 win on Thursday but the Eredivisie club still have a lot of work to do to seal progression into the final eight of the competition.
Tottenham Hotspur will fancy their chances of turning around the one-goal deficit at home, and Troy Parrott confesses that the Dutch side could have put the tie to bed in the first leg had he and his teammates been clinical.
The former Spurs man had one golden chance in the second half after being played through on goal, but he was unable to beat Guglielmo Vicario.
When asked about that missed chance, Parrott told Ziggo Sport (as relayed by AZ Alerts): “I blame myself for that. With my qualities, I have to finish it off. We could have scored two or three goals.
“But I don’t want to be down, because a win is a win. We won and we have to show it again next week. We know that we can compete with such opponents, we have shown that this season.”
Troy Parrott will be hungry to prove a point
Tottenham do not appear to be panicking despite the 1-0 loss, with Ange Postecoglou confidently asserting that Spurs have the tools to break down Alkmaar in the second leg.
However, the Australian will be wary of the threat posed by Parrott, whose finishing skills are something that many Spurs players would be well aware of.
The striker will be determined to prove a point in front of Spurs fans and should he get another opportunity similar to the one that he got last week, one would expect him to bury it.
