Tuchel reveals why Tottenham should be considered PL title contenders

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur are contenders for the Premier League title because of Antonio Conte.

Tottenham and the Blues are set to face off against each other today in a league fixture at Stamford Bridge, which has been far from a happy hunting ground for Spurs in recent years.

Both teams have started their campaign with three points, but will now look to cement their authority in the early stages of this season with a victory over a top side.

Spurs have completed the bulk of their transfer business for this window, having made six immediate reinforcements to their ranks. The west Londoners, on the other hand, are still chasing after targets like Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to meet their needs (talkSPORT).

Conte arrived at Spurs with a renowned reputation, having brought success during his previous stints with Chelsea, Juventus, and Inter Milan.

All eyes will be on him in this campaign, particularly after Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy have backed him in the transfer market with significant additions to the team.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Tuchel was adamant that the North London outfit are in contention to win the league regardless of what the general sentiment is about them.

He expects a team under Conte to pose a genuine threat to their competitors, especially with the Italian’s impressive record in domestic competitions.

Tuchel told Football.London: “I think that every team Antonio Conte trains is a title contender. It’s always like this, in every country with every team.

“They strengthened their squad, they strengthened in their depth, and they have a very demanding coach with an incredible record in domestic titles.

“He will push them to the limit and any team with this kind of quality management, which pushes players to the limit, can over-perform and fight for the top four. And if you fight for the top four, you fight for everything.

“If you’re still in the race in March, you’re fighting for everything. It’s a long way to go and he will never admit it, but for me, an Antonio Conte team fights for everything.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It feels like Tuchel is simply trying to put pressure on us to make it difficult for today’s game. Yes, Conte does have an incredible record to his name, looking at how he has fared at Inter Milan, Juventus and the Bridge. However, circumstances are a lot different at this moment. The likes of Manchester City and Liverpool are clear favourites as usual and it will be hard for Spurs to break into that conversation so quickly.
