‘Two birds with one stone’ – Journalist reveals what he expects Paratici to do before deadline

The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor expects Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici to push through some swap deals in the final few days of the transfer window.

Tottenham have had an extremely forgettable window so far, with the club yet to bring a single-player through the door.

The North London club’s pursuit of Adama Traore has reportedly been hijacked by Barcelona (Guardian) while the Lilywhites now also look set to lose out to Liverpool in the race for Luis Diaz (The Athletic).

In addition, it was reported earlier this week that Antonio Conte’s men are also keen to offload the likes of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso before Monday’s deadline (Evening Standard).

However, Spurs have not yet been able to finalise loan or permanent transfers for any of those three players.

Jones believes one way Paratici will try to resolve the matter over the next three days is by completing part-exchange deals or direct swaps.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The way he (Paratici) negotiates is very much swap deals, players plus cash, particularly with the kind of finances he’s working with at the moment.

“Given the fact that a lot of these Tottenham players could actually leave the club, he’s looking at killing two birds with one stone.”

Swap deals are usually very difficult to pull off as there is no guarantee that clubs that we are looking to buy from would want the players we wish to offload.

In addition, negotiations can prove extra tricky as the two clubs would have to agree on the valuations of, not one, but two players.

Finally, there is also an increased risk of the move falling through in case one of the two players are not particularly keen.
