‘Two days’ – Cristian Stellini discusses Antonio Conte’s return after surgery

Tottenham Hotspur’s assistant manager Cristian Stellini has been speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s Premier League action and has commented on the situation regarding Antonio Conte’s return to the club following surgery this week.

The club announced earlier this week that Conte had been experiencing severe abdominal pain and had been diagnosed with cholecystitis. The plan was for the 53-year-old to undergo surgery to remove his gallbladder in his native Italy on Wednesday.

Conte took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to thank fans for their support and well wishes, and to let everyone know that the surgery was a success and he was on the road to recovery.

The Spurs head coach said: “Thank you for your lovely messages, my surgery has gone well and I’m already feeling better. Now’s time to recover, I can’t wait to get back on the field with the team.”

While Conte rests and recovers, his assistant Stellini is set to be on the touchline for the game against Manchester City on Sunday. However, it is thought there is a chance Conte could be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the fixture in some capacity (Evening Standard).

During his press conference this aternoon, Stellini commented on the progress of Conte’s recovery and gave an idea as to when we can expect the manager back.

He told Football.London: “We don’t know yet when he is coming back. The surgery was good. He’s recovering well at home [in Italy]. We have two days before the game and anything can happen. But we don’t know yet.”

“The decision will be made tomorrow. We are ready to do everything and Antonio probably the doctor who did the surgery they have to decide for him. We have 48 hours, two days to decide,” Stellini added.

While we cannot wait to see Antonio Conte pacing the touchline again, we really hope he takes the appropriate time to recover from this surgery and doesn’t rush back. The team is in the very capable hands of Stellini in the meantime, and Conte will be able to relay any and all instructions back to his assistant.

There is no doubt given Conte’s work ethic and obsession with football that he is in regular contact with his backroom team to ensure the players are best prepared for the visit of the Premier League champions.
