‘Two meetings’ – Journalist provides positive update on Kane contract talks with Spurs

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has said that Tottenham have already begun talks with Harry Kane’s entourage regarding a potential new contract.

The reports that emerged last week (Telegraph) stating that Kane is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season were contradicted by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Monday, with the journalist suggesting that the striker is open to signing a new deal at Tottenham.

He explained that Spurs plan on reopening talks with the 29-year-old entourage regarding a contract at the end of the January transfer window, and added that the England captain might commit his future to the boyhood club if they show ambition and the offer is right.

After scoring his 266th goal for Tottenham on Monday, thus drawing level with Jimmy Greaves at the top of the club’s goalscoring charts, Kane insisted that he is not thinking about his future and is fully focused on the season at hand (BBC Sport).

Di Marzio has now revealed that there have already been two meetings between the striker’s camp and the Spurs hierarchy regarding the player’s future.

The journalist told Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show: “There have been two meetings between Spurs and Harry Kane’s agent. It’s been confirmed he’s open to renewing his contract. Talks are ongoing.”

I suspect Kane has realised that no club apart from Manchester City would offer him a guarantee of winning league titles, which is why he might be better served staying at Spurs.

The 29-year-old might have also looked at Arsenal’s dramatic rise this season and deduced that there is no reason why the Lilywhites cannot challenge for major honours over the coming years.
